Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The beatitudes seem paradoxical. Aren’t the poor unhappy? They seem, and they are for the world, but not in reality. Blessed are those who do not have an attached heart: they are the richest (VCG, p. 199).
