Listen, my people, to my teaching, and pay attention to what I say. (Ps 77:1)<\/p>\n

After a brief introduction to the Eucharist of the day, the celebrant invites the assembly to the penitential rite as usual. Then, the following penitential invocations, appropriate for this solemnity, may be used:<\/p>\n

Moses said to the people: the Lord, your God, will raise up for you a prophet like myself from your midst, from among your own people, to him you shall listen. Remember all that you asked of the Lord, your God, at Horeb, on the day of the Assembly, when you said: \u2018I am afraid to die and I do not want to hear the voice of the Lord, my God, again or have sight again of that raging fire.\u2019 So the Lord said to me: \u2018They have spoken well. I shall raise up a prophet from their midst, one of their brothers, who will be like you. I will put my words into his mouth and he will enjoin on them all that I command. Indeed, what we taught you about the power and the return of Christ Jesus our Lord was not drawn from myths or formulated theories. We ourselves were eyewitnesses of his majesty, when he received glory and honour from God the Father, when from the magnificent glory this most extraordinary word came upon him: \u201cThis is my Son, my Chosen One.\u201d We ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. Therefore, we believe most firmly in the message of the prophets which you should consider rightly as a lamp shining in a dark place until the break of day, when the morning star shines in your hearts. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew\u00a0 <\/strong>(23:1-10)<\/strong><\/p>\n

(You have one Father in heaven. You have one Master the Christ.)<\/p>\n

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: \u201cThe teachers of the Law and the Pharisees occupy the seat of Moses. Listen and do all they say, but do not imitate what they do, for they do not practise what they teach. They bind up heavy burdens that are hard to carry, and lay them on the shoulders of the people. But they themselves will not even raise a finger to move them. They do everything in order to be seen by people; so they wear very wide bands around their foreheads, and robes with large tassels. They like to occupy the first places at feasts and reserved seats in the synagogues; they also enjoy being greeted in the marketplace and being called \u2018Rabbi\u2019 by the people. But do not let yourselves be called \u2018Rabbi\u2019 because you have only one Master, and all of you are brothers. Neither should you call anyone on earth Father, for you have only one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor should you be called Teacher, because Christ is the only Teacher for you.
