\nHail, O Cross! on which the life himself<\/span>
\nDied, and by death our life restor\u2019d!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. On which our Savior\u2019s holy side
\nRent open with a cruel spear<\/span>
\nOf blood and water poured a stream,<\/span>
\nTo wash us from defilement clear.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. O sacred wood! in thee fulfill\u2019d
\nWas holy David\u2019s prophecy!<\/span>
\nWhich told the world, the Lord would reign<\/span>
\nO\u2019er all the nations from a tree.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Most royally empurpled o\u2019er,
\nHow beauteously thy stem doth shine!<\/span>
\nHow glorious was its lot to touch<\/span>
\nThose limbs so holy and divine!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTo saints increase the grace they have;<\/span>

7. Salvation\u2019s spring, blest Trinity,
\nBe praise to thee through earth and skies:<\/span>
\nThou through the Cross the victory<\/span>
