Poverty, which is detachment, produces, gives and provides… Things must be at our service, not us to be slaves to things. One who is greedy and makes too many distinctions between food and food is slave of one’s comforts, of one’s senses, of one’s taste. Be free, better: use everything but not be enslaved (Prediche alle Suore Pastorelle, II, 179).
