All the Institutes are bound to poverty, but not all in the same way: another is the poverty of a Cistercian, another that of a Jesuit. The norm of Saint Thomas stands: «Religious poverty has an instrumental value, that is, it is in view of the twofold goal to which it is ordained: the sanctification and the apostolate» (UPS I, 455).
