Christian perfection, wrote a Doctor of the Church, has eight steps, which are the eight evangelical beatitudes. But at the first step is poverty: «Blessed are the poor in spirit, for of them is the kingdom of heaven». Here we are: beginning with poverty (Per un rinnovamento spirituale, 273).
