In hope we direct our desires to heaven, the eternal goods, the spiritual goods, and then the soul, stretched out towards spiritual goods, paradise, renounces everything. So here, one makes the vow of poverty, that is to be detached from the earth so that with its wings one can soar and rise more to the heavenly goods. God alone is enough, then.
