Collect

O God, who entrusted your Church to the leadership of Pope Saint Paul VI, a courageous apostle of the gospel of your Son, ensure that, enlightened by his teachings, we may cooperate with you to expand the civilization of love in the world. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

First Reading

A Reading from the first Letter of St Paul to the Corinthians
(9:16-19,22-23)

(Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel.)

Look, I have no merit in announcing the Gospel, for I am bound to do it. Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel! If I do it willingly, I have a reward; but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a commission. How can I, then, deserve a reward? In announcing the Gospel, I will do it freely without making use of the right given to me by the Gospel. For, though I am free from everybody, I become everybody’s slave in order to gain a greater number. I also shared the scruples of those people with a weak conscience, in order to gain those people who were still weak. So I made myself all things to all people in order to save, by all possible means, some of them. I do it for the Gospel, and with the hope of sharing its reward.
The Word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm  (Ps 95 (96))

Response:  Proclaim the wonders of the Lord to all peoples.

Sing to the Lord a new song,
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless his name. R/.

Proclaim his salvation day after day.
Tell his glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among the peoples. R/.

Give to the Lord, you families of nations,
give to the Lord glory and strength,
give the Lord the glory due to his name. R/.

Say among the nations: “The Lord reigns!”
He has made the world firm, immovable;
He will judge the peoples with justice. R/.

Acclamation

Alleluia! Alleluia!
Come after me, says the Lord, I will make you fishers of men. Alleluia.

Gospel

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (16:13-19)

(You are Peter, and I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.)

After that Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi. He asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of man is?” They said, “Some say you are John the Baptist, others, Elijah or Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Jesus asked them, “But you, who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are a happy man, Simon, son of Jonah, for it is not flesh or blood that has revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And now I tell you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church; and never will the powers of death overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you unbind on earth will be unbound in heaven.” The Gospel of the Lord.

Prayer over the Offerings

We offer you, Lord, this sacrifice of praise in honour of your saints, in the serene confidence of being freed from present and future evils and of obtaining the legacy you promised us.
Through Christ, our Lord.

Preface
The Lord be with you.
R/ And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
R/ We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R/ It is right and just.

It is truly a right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
You give to your church
the joy of celebrating the memory of Saint Paul VI;
through his examples you strengthen her,
through his teachings you teach her,
and through his intercession you protect her.

For this gift of your kindness,
united with angels and saints,
with one voice
we sing the hymn of your praise:

All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts …

Communion Antiphon

The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. (Jn 10:11)

Prayer after Communion

Lord our God,
who incessantly fed the life of Saint Paul VI
and urged him to consume himself for your Church,
grant that this communion with your holy mysteries
may arouse in us the flame of charity.
Through Christ our Lord.
