Return, Apostle of Christ

1. Oh, return to us, Paul, Christ’s Apostle!
In this the hour of hatred and darkness.
Stripped of all love, the whole world is seeking
Christ the merciful Lord, our divine King.
Through the nations may your word reecho
Once again giving light, faith and love.
May the young be inflamed with great ardor
And be made heirs of your word and your wisdom.

2. Oh, return to us, Paul, Christ’s Apostle!
In this the hour of hatred and darkness.
Each new day that dawns speaks so clearly
Of the worth of your name, dearest Father.
You have borne chains for love of the Master,
Hope-filled hearts look to you in their need.
See your children in trust here before you
All of us are gathered to pray and implore you.

3. Oh, return to us, Paul, Christ’s Apostle!
In this the hour of hatred and darkness.
Come and pour out the splendor of Christ’s love
In a world that is striving for true peace.
We are servants of Christ and his cross
We, God’s people, all over the earth.
And if hearts have been poisoned by hatred,
O holy Paul, transform them in your likeness.
